There are no coincidences?
I was in November 2025 going to the Birmingham Film Festival to present our already award winning Starwars Fan Film "Rebel Storm" and little did I know that I was in for a surprise. One of the first shortfilms screened in Birmingham, UK was the emotional brilliantly done "Merman" directed by Madeleine Wynn with Astrea Productions.
What absolutely stunned me was to see... Alistair Petrie in it!
When I asked the producer how she got him into his movie I learned - also when I asked Alistair personally at the German Comiccion just one week later, that he is still a big supporter of indepedent film making and that he still loves to work in small productions because of the amount of artistic freedom you have as an actor in doing so with such projects.
And to no surprise this short film "Merman" won an award!
And drum roll, please - our short film "Rebel Storm" also won an award!
I am so proud now that I can say that I have something in common with Alistair Petrie, being in a short film that won an award at the same film festival like him and it makes me so excited - and of course the award we won was a group effort for our "Rebel Storm" production FOR BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS and not my supporting actor performance, and so was the award for "Merman" for the production success and team effort for BEST FIRST TIME FILMMAKER.
However we are all proud alike in what we created together and Alistair Petrie in all his panel appearances made it quite clear that he is in awe and appreciation of what fans of films do as much as we do as film professionals and the teams we are working with, no matter it be makeup, sound engineers, directors, writers and all essential parts in our industry.
I can't wait to see how more often my path will cross his... hopefully in working together in a scene in the near future, who knows? I am open to more fun suprising encounters for sure!
